General Surgery

General surgery is the treatment of injury, deformity, and disease using operative procedures and is frequently performed to alleviate suffering when a cure is unlikely through medication alone. Vascular surgery concerns diagnosis, treatment and prevention of diseases affecting arteries, veins, and lymphatic. New methods and technological advances have resulted in less invasive types of procedures. Surgery can be used for routine procedures performed in a physician’s office, such as a vasectomy, or for more complicated operations requiring a medical team in a hospital setting.

Dr. Powell is board certified in general, vascular, and thoracic surgery and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. This means that the surgeon’s education and training, professional qualifications, surgical competence, and ethical conduct have passed a rigorous evaluation, consistent with the high standards established and demanded by the American College of Surgeons and the American Board of Surgery.
