Podiatric Medicine & Surgery
Podiatric medicine & surgery deals with the examination, diagnosis and treatment of diseases and disorders of the human foot. Most of us, eventually, will experience some type of foot ailment which might include heel pain, bunions, warts, ingrown nails, corns and calluses, fractures, hammertoes, flat feet, ankle pain/sprains and skin ulcers. Since many diseases are manifested by symptoms in the feet, a doctor of podiatric medicine will frequently diagnose disorders such as diabetes, arthritis, and circulatory problems. Exercise can also cause increased impact on one’s feet.
A doctor of podiatric medicine (DPM) must go through training similar to that of a medical doctor.
